Macclesfield Gatherings – 29/11

Macclesfield Gatherings - 29/11

Dear friends

Please see below the details of our gatherings this week.

Tuesday 30th November 12.30 – 1.30 pm Tao on Tuesday in Chapel
Join us for our meditation on the Tao Te Ching. We read a short passage, enjoy a time of shared silence for meditation and then share our reflections on the text. All welcome.

Tuesday 30th November, 7 – 7.45 pm: Advent Centering Prayer Meditation

Listening with the heart: we will hear a piece of poetry on the advent theme of hope and listen for a word or phrase that speaks to us. We will then meditate on our sacred word or phrase using the simple practice of centering prayer, which originated with Father Thomas Keating, a Trappist monk who was inspired by both Christian contemplative monasticism and Zen Buddhism.
Led by Laura Dobson. No previous experience of meditation required. All welcome.

Stephen Lingwood is a pioneer community minister, serving the congregation of Cardiff Unitarians / Undodiaid Caerdydd and doing grass-roots mission work in inner-city Cardiff. Previously he worked for nine years as minister of Bank Street Unitarian Chapel in Bolton. He is author of The Unitarian Life: Voices from the Past and Present and Seeking Paradise: A Unitarian Mission for Our Time. He works in Riverside, a diverse, inner-city area of Cardiff, engaging in dialogue with artists and political radicals, working on climate activism, and collaborating with other faith-based activists. He is exploring what it means to seek paradise in one urban neighbourhood in the age of the climate crisis.

Sunday 5th December 10 – 11 am: Sunday Gathering in the Chapel
O Come O Come Emmanuel – welcoming the gift of incarnation. We will be exploring a Unitarian view of incarnation – we are all incarnations of the divine light and our bodies are as much part of our divinity as our souls. As nineteenth century Unitarian theologian James Martineau said, “The incarnation is true, not of Christ exclusively, but of Man universally, and God everlastingly.” Led by Laura Dobson. All welcome.

Anyone who is unable to attend chapel is welcome to join the Chorlton congregation on Zoom for their congregational Advent service at 10.30 am, led by Tom Grimshaw. All welcome.
